Yellow Algae or Mustard Algae can grow quickly on pool walls. If brushed it can be removed easily, but will return quickly. The following steps can be taken to kill yellow algae:
- Check pH level. It should be 7.4-7.6 ppm.
- Brush pool walls.
- Superchlorinate (shock) pool using the proper chemical.
- White Plaster Pools: 2 lb. per 10,000 gallons of shock chlorine (Calcium-Hypochlorite).
- Vinyl/Fiberglass Pools: 2 gallons of liquid chlorine or 2 lbs of RAM LITHO-SHOCK® per 10,000 gallons.
- Add 17 oz of RAM MUSTARD OUT 60® per 10,000 gallons or 36 oz of RAM POLY ALGAECIDE® per 10,000 gallons.
- Run filter system for 24 hours.
- Brush off any remaining visible algae.
- Vacuum pool and backwash/clean filter.
- Do not allow swimmers in pool until chlorine level drops to 3.0 ppm or lower.
Helpful Hint: To prevent regrowth of algae use 4 oz. of RAM MUSTARD OUT 60® or 9 oz. of RAM POLY ALGAECIDE® per 10,000 gallons every 7 days. |
